Self-Love

you are not a project, you are human. | a gentle reminder for self-love & self-improvement

We all want to be the best versions of ourselves, but sometimes we forget that our best looks different every day.

We create an obsession with being the best.

“When I stop doing this, I’ll be the best version of myself.”

“When I start doing this, I’ll be the best version of myself.”

Whether it’s bad habits, toxic mannerisms, destructive traits; you believe that without them- you are the best. So, you try to fix them.

To fix something is to say that it’s broken. But I’m not broken, and neither are you. To improve something though, is to be better.

By obsessing over being the best, we treat ourselves like a project; this big assignment that we have to ace.

While building who you want to be, don’t neglect who you are, or who you were. Self-love is about loving every single version of yourself.

You want to grow, and you want to improve, that’s normal. But improving something and feeling the need to fix something are 2 very different things.

It’s the obsession that’s preventing us from being.

Let’s talk about DESTINATION ADDICTION. This is when we believe that happiness, peace, and contentment are found somewhere other than the present.

“Once I do this, I’ll be happy.”

“Once I learn this, I’ll be at peace.”

We use the term, “working on ourselves,” to imply that we are actively trying to change for the better. But in doing so, why do we neglect who we are, and where we are because we think there’s better somewhere else? When do we learn to appreciate the space between who we are and who we want to be?

When do we start to value self-love as much as we value self-improvement?

We are constantly picking at things we deem to be “wrong”- constantly trying to find ways to fix ourselves. That self-help/self-improvement mindset leads us to believe that we are damaged, or not good enough.

We fixate on the future because we believe we’re not broken there. But we’re not even broken here, in this space that we’re in right now.

The idea of self-improvement is to be at peace with who you are- not to treat yourself like a project.

We beat ourselves up for falling back into old habits and making bad decisions to the point where we don’t feel worthy unless we are perfect. And that “perfection” we’re seeking doesn’t exist.

We are not designed to be perfect saints who never make mistakes. We are designed to live, to learn, to love, to laugh, and to be.

Be gentle with yourself throughout your journey. Prioritize self-love. Be enough for yourself in that moment because you are enough in this moment.
